Sharks vs. Hurricanes preview: Troy Grosenick makes his NHL debut

Former Union College star will get his first big league start today for the Sharks.

Alex Stalock is still injured and Antti Niemi played less than 24 hours prior to puck drop so rookie goaltender Troy Grosenick will make his NHL debut between the pipes for the Sharks this afternoon in Raleigh. While the Sharks once again find themselves playing on the second half of a back-to-back, this time their opponents are in the same situation as the Hurricanes dropped a 2-1 decision in Boston on Saturday morning. After going winless through the entire month of October, Carolina has been hot of late and, not coincidentally, getting a lot healthier. The 'Canes are 5-2-1 in November and will test Grosenick with captain Eric Staal and young sniper Jeff Skinner, both of whom are now back in the lineup.

  • Jeff Skinner missed time due to a concussion but is back in the lineup and scored his 100th career goal last week, becoming the fourth-youngest player in league history to do so.
