Sharks vs. Red Wings Preview: Renewing an old(ish) rivalry

Once upon a time, the Sharks and Red Wings had a pretty nice rivalry going. Then the winged wheels moved to the Eastern Conference and that budding rivalry died a quick death. Now without Mike Babcock behind the bench for the first time since 2004, the Wings look to solidify their spot in the Atlantic Division in San Jose.

Meanwhile, the Sharks could really use a win after a miserable effort against Winnipeg on Saturday. San Jose didn’t play well against Detroit in the team’s last meeting, but a miserable night from Jimmy Howard helped the Sharks pick up a win (on that mythical road trip, no less).

San Jose will be wearing their heritage jerseys against the Wings. I’m sure Jamie Baker is very excited.

Last Meeting

Despite playing like complete ass, the Sharks managed to win. Yay.
Storylines
  • Martin Jones has struggled after bursting out of the game with the Sharks and could use a good game. Preferably several good games strung together, honestly.
  • The Red Wings possession numbers aren’t very good and neither are their special teams.
  • San Jose has beaten Detroit in seven of their last 10 meetings./
