Sharks vs. Wild Preview: San Jose looks to score hockey goals

San Jose looks to snap a three-game losing streak as it heads to Minnesota to battle the Wild for the final time during the regular season. The Sharks are 0-2 against the Wild this year and have been outscored 8-5 in those contests. Puck drop is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. as San Jose gets set for the second half of a road back to back. Thanks for scheduling that, NHL!

Meanwhile the Wild haven’t been playing so hot lately, either. Minnesota has lost five-straight while all but ceding the Central to Chicago. Devan Dubnyk has fallen right back to Earth (gee, who saw that coming) and Bruce Boudreau’s club will come into tonight’s game starving for a victory. Sound familiar? Yeah, I’m not looking forward to this one either.

The Sharks put plenty of rubber on net and created some good opportunities but couldn’t beat Kari Lehtonen on Monday night. That’s something just about no other NHL team has been able to say this year, so kudos to San Jose for crossing something new off the ole bucket list. A new look San Jose team, thanks to a mess load of injuries,  got a chance to pull the team off the mat.

We’ll see what head coach Pete DeBoer decides to do against the Wild. Chris Tierney was a late scratch because of the flu. If he’s good to go against the Wild I see him drawing back in for Danny O’Regan, who played a good but not great game against Dallas. Timo Meier looked phenomenal in his return to the lineup and I don’t envision him getting scratched.

DeBoer’s lineup decisions have been puzzling all season, so don’t go to Vegas with my guesses. Martin Jones will get the start in net. You can put money on that one if you want; I feel pretty darn good about it. Go Sharks.
