The Daily Chum: Marcus and Jacob live text Game Four

Marcus and I didn’t exactly get a beer and watch the game together on account of the couple hundred miles separating our secret locations. Instead, enjoy our text message conversation from tonight’s game. It went pretty well, if I do say so myself. It uh, certainly hit the ground running.

Jacob Sundstrom:

CAPTAIN LINE REASSIMILATED

I for one, think Pete DeBoer should keep listening to our podcast.

Marcus White:

We need the hits and it is good for the shorks

Jacob Sundstrom:

Is this the first time the Sharks have played with a lead?

Marcus White:

Yes all series

Jacob Sundstrom:

It’ll be interesting to see how that affects things.

Marcus White:

I, for one, welcome our score effects overlords.

Jacob Sundstrom:

The Sharks have six shots in three minutes. That, according to my calculations, is good.

Marcus White:

Playing with a lead is underrated

Jacob Sundstrom:

Me: I believe confidence is overrated.

Me, now: LOOK AT MY STRONG BOYS PLAYING WITH THE STRENGTH OF FIVE THOUSAND OXEN NOW THAT THEY BELIEVE

Marcus White:

mikkel boedker don’t look at this

timo meier hello

Jacob Sundstrom:

dude has come alive

Marcus White:

There has been an Awakening

Jacob Sundstrom:

I’m glad the Captain Line is back together, but I am not sold on them playing against McDavid …

It’s not a good matchup, especially with Thornton playing at half speed.

Marcus White:

Yup agreed

Offensive zone faceoffs I don’t mind

Jacob Sundstrom:

Yeah. The problem is that Thornton is a riverboat gambler which often leads to odd-man rushes… you know… for McDavid…

Jacob Sundstrom:

Sharks took a nap midway through the first period. If they don’t wake back up, they’re in trouble.

Marcus White:

*screams and shakes fist to the heavens*

SCORE EFFFFFFEEEEECCCCTTTSSS

Marcus White:

Patrick Fucking Marleau

Jacob Sundstrom:

Steve Spott eh

Marcus White:

What a shot

Tierney Should Get Power Play Time

Jacob Sundstrom:

This Is A Recording

Marcus White:

Sorensen scored because of his first name tbh

Jacob Sundstrom:

At first I thought you were confused about which was his first and last name and then I realized you were complimenting yourself.

Marcus White:

It Me

Jacob Sundstrom:

Good for you.

Joel Ward with two points in four games.

Marcus White:

Playoff Performer

He got bumped up to 2nd line, too.

The #narrative

Jacob Sundstrom:

Love that narrative.

Jacob Sundstrom:

This is a mercy pull of Cam Talbot right?

Wow. That’s unbelievably dirty by Draisaitl. If that turns into a suspension that’s a huge break for the Sharks.

Marcus White:

A McLellan teams comes off the rails, news at 11

Jacob Sundstrom:

Who could have foreseen this?

The parade to the box continues.

Marcus White:

A six goal lead sure is nice

Jacob Sundstrom:

So much for score effects.

Marcus White:

THEY STILL HAVE 20 MINUTES

Jacob Sundstrom:

If the Sharks blow this, well, we can always learn French over the summer to prepare to cover the Quebec Requins.

Marcus White:

Oui Monsieur

Jacob Sundstrom:

You’re off to a good start.

So what do you think? Does Draisaitl get suspended?

Marcus White:

Gut says no since Tierney wasn’t hurt and he is a first time offender

Would be great for San Jose if wrong

Jacob Sundstrom:

Agreed on both counts. Feels like there should be some sort of collective punishment dealt here because Edmonton is going to more or less get away with nothing more than a loss, assuming the Sharks don’t blow this, after playing very dangerously, in the second.

What do you think of the new lines?

Marcus White:

Did they further reorganize?

Jacob Sundstrom:

They’ve used a couple line combos tonight. I think the Captain Line needs to stick and you gotta like the Hertl line. I’m curious what they do with Ward in game four.

Marcus White:

Ward’s spent some time with Couture. Without last change, I’d split them up though

Jacob Sundstrom:

Kind of funny he has assists on goals with two different lines.

Marcus White:

Yeah, right? I want to take a deeper look at the numbers but I think Hansen has helped stabilize the Couture line

Jacob Sundstrom:

I think the Sharks just not playing well over the last stretch of the season has distracted from how much depth Hansen gives to the middle six of the lineup.

Whichever line he goes to there is a huge boost.

Marcus White:

Agreed, he’s been a stellar addition in that sense. Provides a lot versatility

Jacob Sundstrom:

A Danish Army Knife doesn’t have the same ring to it.

Marcus White:

This is true

Jacob Sundstrom:

We’re tied 2-2. How do you feel about the series? We both picked the Oilers in six. Does that change after this game?

Marcus White:

I feel better, yes. But I still lean Oilers. Game 5 is the one that will change my opinion

Marcus White:

I think this one goes the distance now, however

Jacob Sundstrom:

I feel similarly, though I don’t think we’ll ever get a feel for this series at this point. This one is going seven games. So don’t make any plans for Monday night.
