Top 25 San Jose Sharks under 25: No. 10 Marcus Sorensen

We kick off the top ten Sharks under 25 today with Swedish winger Marcus Sorensen. Sorensen was signed to an entry level contract in May of this year. He was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the fourth round of the 2010 draft, but they failed to sign him before the June 1, 2012 deadline.

At 24 years of age, Sorensen has played in Sweden since 2008. He had 15 goals and 19 assists in 47 games played for Djurgardens IF in the Swedish Hockey League last season. He won rookie of the year for the SHL after scoring 32 points and making a playoff appearance during the 2014-15 season. He also played for Sweden in the 2015 Euro Hockey Tour. We expect to see Sorensen playing with what should be a very fun to watch Barracuda next season.

From Hockey’s Future:

Sorensen is a fast but light forward with strong stick handling and passing skills. He can be overmatched physically in one-on-one situations at times but is willing to go into the hard areas either to retrieve pucks or create scoring chances. He was a dynamic scorer in junior hockey but played more of a two-way game in the SHL. Undisciplined at times early in his career, he has shown much more composure as he has gained experience.

Name: Marcus Sorensen

Age (as of 10/12/16): 24

Position: Left Wing

2015-16 Team: Djurgardens IF

Where he’ll (probably) be next year: San Jose Barracuda

What we like: Fast with good passing and stick handling abilities.

What to improve on: He’s a bit on the small side, and his scoring ability could use work.

Highlight:

Here are some highlights from Sorensen’s Rookie of the Year season. His speed is really on display, especially in the breakaway goal at the beginning of the video.
