In addition to having one of the best names in the San Jose Sharks system, Rourke Chartier looks like one of the Sharks most promising forwards. He possesses great vision, skates well and can score. That skating ability helps him evade defenders and his great hands allowed him to be one of the better scorers in the Western Hockey League.
Part of what makes him such a great scorer is his willingness to shoot from just about anywhere. That means some of his numbers are inflated by playing against substandard goaltending but that style bodes well for his future with the Sharks. Chartier has great hands and really can pop the puck in from just about anywhere if given enough time and space.
He took a step back offensively last season, scoring 46 points in 42 games after tallying 82 points in 58 games the year prior. Don’t expect him to translate into that type of scorer at the NHL level, but if Chartier puts together a good season with the Barracuda he’ll compete for a roster spot in 2017-18.
