Troy Grosenick recalled by San Jose Sharks

Per the AHL, Troy Grosenick has been recalled to the San Jose Sharks.

This might be complicated.

The 28-year-old goaltender is not waivers exempt, meaning if he’s called up, he has to stay up — or risk getting claimed by any teams who may be in search of a goalie when he is sent back down. The exception would be if Grosenick were an emergency call up. In order to meet that requirement, the Sharks would have to fall below the two goalie roster minimum, either by suspension or being placed on Injured Reserve.

With the news yesterday focusing heavily on Martin Jones’ performance and whether it could be injury-related, it’s difficult to not draw conclusions before a statement from the Sharks comes out.

Grosenick had injury issues of his own earlier in the season, requiring knee surgery earlier this season. The injury to his knee occurred the same day that Jones suffered a lower-body injury.

Parker Gahagen backed up Antoine Bibeau in last night’s Barracuda victory over the San Diego Gulls.

We’ll let you know how this story develops.
