The 2024 NHL Trade Deadline is at 3 p.m. ET today, and the Sharks still have a few names floating around. Since many of the big names have already come off the board, we’re left with some smaller pieces that could change a team’s postseason outcome. With that in mind, here’s a look at the remaining players on pundits’ trade draft boards and where the Sharks players land on those boards.
Chris Johnston of The Athletic
Johnston still has 42 names on his trade board, and several of them are Sharks. With Anthony Duclair out of the mix, Mikael Granlund is the Sharks’ top name on the trade board, coming in at 17. Granlund has a term on his contract, which some teams may want if San Jose is willing to use its final retention slot to move the center.
Goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen is 18th on the list behind goaltenders Jacob Markstrom (5th) and Linus Ullmark (12th).
Mike Hoffman and Alexander Barabanov occupy the 34th and 35th spots on the list, respectively.
Note that Kevin Labanc doesn’t even make the cut.
TSN’s Trade Bait Board
Over at TSN, the trade bait board is not kind to the Sharks’ players. Kahkonen is the top-ranked asset in the Sharks’ organization, coming in 23rd. He’s behind goaltenders Jake Allen (14th) and Markstrom (10th).
Duclair was 26th on the board but has now been traded.
Granlund is 32nd, with centers like Scott Laughton (31st), Jack Roslovic (20th) and Nic Dowd (17th) listed above him.
Barabanov and Labanc didn’t make the cut.
ESPN’s Trade Deadline Rankings
Over on ESPN, Kahkonen is the highest-ranked Shark on the list at 23. ESPN has Marc-Andre Fleury (12th) and Juuse Saros (5th) ranked higher on the draft board than Kahkonen. Since both Minnesota and Nashville have said they’re not trading their goalies, Kahkonen is the top goaltender on ESPN’s draft board.
Granlund is 31st on the board with centers like Kevin Hayes (22nd) and Dowd (21st) above him and still available.
Meanwhile, Barabanov is 46th on the list with a bunch of wingers listed above him still available on the board including Pavel Buchnevich (4th), Frank Vatrano (8th) and Jordan Eberle (15th).
Hoffman comes in at lucky number 50 on the list with too many other players still available to count.
Again, Labanc doesn’t make the list.
The Fourth Period’s Trade Watch List
Over at The Fourth Period, Duclair was the Sharks’ top prospect on the list at 4th. After that, you have to scroll all the way down to 16th where you find Barabanov. With Vatrano (11th) and Reilly Smith (6th) and Kaapo Kakko (14th) still available and on The Fourth Period’s board above Barabanov, General Manager Mike Grier might need to offer a discount to move Barabanov today.
Kahkonen is 26th on the board with the usual goaltending suspects above him on the list including Saros (15th), Allen (12th) and Markstrom (10th).
Logan Couture comes in at 27th on The Fourth Period’s board, but given that he hasn’t played since before the All-Star Break, it’s hard to see him moving at the moment.
Hoffman didn’t make the list but is on the “Bubble List.”
