World Junior 2016: USA takes on Czech Republic in quarterfinals

We’re on to the playoff portion of the 2016 World Junior Championships and the United States highlights a full day of action in Finland. Things get going late (or early, or whatever) as Timo Meier, Noah Rod and Team Switzerland battles Belarus in the first of a best-of-three relegation battle.

This is the second-straight year Switzerland finds itself in the relegation series. The Swiss bested Germany in the series last year. Barring an upset, the Swiss will likely take down Belarus this year — and it wouldn’t hurt to see Meier take advantage of a weak opponent to try to suppress the memories of an unexceptional tournament.

Check out the full schedule below — all games with the exception of the Switzerland game will be on NHL Network.

Game 1: Switzerland vs. Belarus

Time: 2 a.m.

Game 2: Russia vs. Denmark

Time: 4 a.m.

Game 3: Sweden vs. Slovakia

Time: 6 a.m.

Game 4: Canada vs. Finland

Time: 8 a.m. (will be shown on tape delay at 12:30 p.m.)

Game 5: USA vs. Czech Republic

Time: 10 a.m.

Unfortunately none of these games are available to be (legally) streamed on the Internet, but if you (like many of us) don’t have NHL Network you can follow along here with the rest of us. Once we wake up and all that.
