Dylan DeMelo, Micheal Haley sent to Barracuda

Dylan DeMelo was just starting to like the press box at SAP Center. The popcorn was delicious, he got to make fun of beat writers and he woke up this morning without needing an advil to walk down the stairs. Alas, the relationship just wasn’t meant to be. DeMelo, along with pressbox bro Micheal Haley, have been sent to the Barracuda.

My reading of this is that Justin Braun will be good to go for Tuesday’s game against the Penguins, while Haley’s demotion may suggest Logan Couture is nearing his return. Both of those things would be phenomenal news for the Sharks. Once those guys return, San Jose will at least have the ability to ice its most competent lines of the season.

Press release:

SAN JOSE – San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has reassigned defenseman Dylan DeMelo (@ddems2) and forward Micheal Haley to the San Jose Barracuda (AHL, @sjbarracuda).

DeMelo, 22, has recorded five assists in 12 games with the Barracuda this season and has played in two games with the Sharks, making his NHL debut on Oct. 17 against the NY Islanders.

A six-foot-one, 195-pound native of London, Ontario, DeMelo was originally drafted by San Jose in the sixth round (179th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft.

The 29-year-old Haley currently ranks T-3rd on the Barracuda with four goals and has six points (two assists) in six AHL games this season. He scored the first goal in Barracuda history and also paces the team with two power-play tallies (tied). In 63 career NHL games with the NY Islanders, NY Rangers and Sharks, Haley has recorded two goals, one assist and 189 penalty minutes. Haley has appeared in seven games with the Sharks this season.

The five-foot-ten, 205-pound native of Guelph, Ontario, was signed by San Jose as a free agent on July 10, 2014.
