From the Editor: Let’s talk New Year

Hello, dear readers. It’s been awhile since we’ve had a chat.

I’m writing this for the sake of transparency. The past few weeks have been a little light here in terms of coverage and I’d like to take a few minutes to explain and apologize.

Last month, I made the decision to transfer within the company I work for and in doing so, took an extra hour and a half of free time out of my day with the increased drive time. Then, just before Christmas, I crashed my car on the way home from covering a hockey game. I’m fine, and my car is finally fine, but with all of that going on (in addition to the holiday season, no less!), I was under-prepared to maintain the site to the standard I hold myself to.

The blame falls on me and I’m sorry for any disappointment this has caused.

But with a new year starting and a crazy, horrible December behind me, I want to get things back on track. You may have noticed game day previews have been light recently — I plan to get a new and improved standardized preview format ready within the next few games. I think you’ll like it, along with some other plans I have brewing.

The good news is that I don’t have to just assume that you’ll like it. I’m asking you flat out for your opinions. What has the site done right? What are we doing wrong? How can I make this site the best possible experience for you?

I’ve made a very brief survey to gauge feedback from the community. I can’t guarantee that I’ll be able to address everything, but this will give me and my incredible staff a concrete place to start. You can fill it out anonymously or include a contact email where we can talk further. Be as specific as possible wherever you can.

I’ll also be refreshing our call for writers soon, so keep an eye out if you’re interested in contributing to Fear the Fin.

Finally, I’ll be leaving the comments open so that you can discuss the site concerns among each other. However, this is not a place for personal grievances or attacks. I don’t anticipate any issues, but asking for feedback is always unpredictable. Please just keep it civil and productive.

The survey is embedded below, or you can click here to open it in a new window. As always, you can contact me at fearthefin@gmail.com.

Happy new year, and let’s go Sharks!
