The Sharks aren’t done. The team has traded Kaapo Kahkonen to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for Vitek Vanecek and a 2025 seventh-round pick in the draft.

The 28-year-old Vanecek has appeared in 32 games with the Devils this season. He has a 17-9-3 record with a 3.18 goals against average and .890 save percentage. Spoiler alert, it won’t get better with the Sharks.

Despite the issues this season, Vanecek has done well historically. In his 163 games in the NHL, he has a .905 save percentage and 2.70 goals against average. What’s more, he’s familiar with Mackenzie Blackwood. The two shared the net in New Jersey last season.
