Marcus Sorensen scores first NHL goal

We’ll always remember his first. A wonderful shift by the Sharks’ third line ended with the first goal of Marcus Sorensen’s career. The 25-year-old forward recovered a pass from Tomas Hertl that went off his own skate and threw it into the back of the net to put the Sharks up 2-1 on Thursday night.

Vancouver gets an assist here for doing a whole lot of standing around and puck watching, but you gotta love Sorensen’s tenacity. He attacks the puck to create the goal, his first in his fourth NHL game. He now has two points. San Jose signed him as a free agent back in May.

With Jannik Hansen likely to join the Sharks this weekend, Sorensen might find himself back on the fourth line. Plays like this help make his case to keep him in the lineup over Micheal Haley, who has also had a fine game on San Jose’s fourth line. These are good problems to have.
