Mirco Mueller recalled by San Jose Sharks

The San Jose Sharks recalled Mirco Mueller today, possibly signaling the absence of David Schlemko as Team Teal hosts the Ottawa Senators this evening. Mueller played the 2014-15 season with San Jose but spent almost all of last season in the AHL and, it appeared, was passed on the defender depth chart by at least Dylan DeMelo if not Tim Heed as well.

This move doesn’t necessarily dispel that belief. If Schlemko can’t go tonight (he was absent from practice on Tuesday), DeMelo may play in his stead with Mueller sitting in the press box. If it’s just a one-game injury, Mueller can return to the ‘Cuda tomorrow as they host the Stockton Heat.

If it’s a longer absence than that, the call up is a bit more surprising. Perhaps the Sharks have seen more from Mueller with the Barracuda than we previously thought. Heed has put up impressive point totals, but naturally there is more to a defender than the number of goals they score.

Marcus White will be at today’s practice and will look to get more information on Mueller’s surprising recall.
