NHL Draft 2018: Preview, start time, and where to watch

The 2018 NHL Entry Draft starts tonight in Dallas. The Sharks are picking at 21st overall and should have a decent crop of players to select from — and there’s always at least one player who stays on the board longer than expected. The top three picks belong to the Buffalo Sabres, the Carolina Hurricanes, and the Montreal Canadiens. There’s no real doubt that Rasmus Dahlin will go first overall and start his career as a Sabre tonight.

Here’s what you need to know:

Round One

Date: Friday, June 22

Start time: 7:30 PM EDT / 4:30 PDT

Venue: American Airlines Center, Dallas, Texas

Broadcast: NBCSN (USA), Sportsnet (Canada)

Rounds Two through Seven

Date: Saturday, June 23

Start time: 11:00 AM EDT / 8:00 AM PDT

Broadcast: NHL Network (USA), Sportsnet (Canada)

The Sharks will have seven picks during day two, though they won’t pick until the fourth round. Don’t expect Doug Wilson to stay quiet, though. It sounds like he’s sick of playing it safe, telling Kevin Kurz of the Athletic, “I think we may go into this draft looking for a difference-maker with a little higher risk than we have in the past.”

If Wilson goes off his own beaten path, this draft is about to get interesting.
