Patrick Marleau scores career goal number 500

Patrick Marleau wasted no time getting No. 500 out of the way on Thursday night. It took him only nine minutes and 30 seconds to score on the power play against the Vancouver Canucks to net the 500th goal in his career, all of which have come in teal, to give San Jose a 1-0 advantage.

The goal is his 1,064th career point and moves him into a tie at 44th with Lanny McDonald on the all-time goal scorer list. He’s just 13 goals behind nemesis Jeremy Roenick on the all-time list. Marleau is now tied with former San Jose Shark Ray Whitney in all-time points at 64th.

It’s been an absolute pleasure watching Patty play in teal — especially as of late. He’s been a man possession ever since that third period in Colorado; though in fairness Marleau has played very well for the better part of this campaign. The only disappointing thing is that it didn’t come at home — though I’m sure Patty will get a very nice ovation on Saturday.
