Quick Bite: Sharks beat Flames in regular season finale

Saturday’s game against Calgary was the Sharks’ final tune up chance against a real playoff opponent. Though not with a fully healthy lineup, San Jose held off the Flames for a 3-1 win on Saturday night.

San Jose stayed alive in the first period by killing off 3 crucial penalties. They managed to hold the Flames to just 6 shots on those opportunities and throughout the first period.

Chris Tierney got the Sharks on the board first in the second period. Hansen’s pass found Tierney in front of the net for a quick and easy tap-in.

The Sharks would add to their lead late in the second period. Mikkel Boedker ended a 16 game goal-less drought with a nice goal to make it 2-0. Boedker picked up the loose puck and buried it past Elliot.

Aaron Dell made some crucial saves near the end of the second, but it wasn’t enough. Digging for the puck in front, Curtis Lazar poked it past Dell to cut the Sharks’ lead to just 1 after the first period.

In the 3rd, Danny O’Reagan scored his first NHL goal to make it 3-1. A Vlasic shot from the point on the power play caught O’Reagan’s stick in front.  It was smooth sailing the rest of the way, and the Sharks took advantage of that opportunity and won 3-1.
