Quick Bite: Sharks get past Jets

The Sharks secured two points tonight in the second half of a back-to-back in Winnipeg, and now sit tied for third in the Pacific division.

The game got off to a bit of a slow start, but Mike Brown quickly changed that after a hit and a fight with the Jets’ Mark Stuart. Shortly after Brown’s brawl, the Sharks took their first powerplay of the game.

It wasn’t here that they would get their first goal, though, but rather on the Jets’ first power play, with about five minutes left in the period. You can see Chris Tierney’s shorty here:

Almost immediately after Tierney put the Sharks up, the Jets were able to tie the game on the power play. Joe Thornton would have none of it, though, and put the Sharks back up by one with about forty seconds left.

Winnipeg took a penalty in the dying seconds of the first, allowing the Sharks to start the second period on the power play. As the first penalty died, the Jets took another, giving the Sharks almost four minutes with a man advantage, but the Jets were able to kill both penalties off.

Neither team was able to score in the second. Brenden Dillon fought Andrew Ladd near the end of the period, and both went off the ice with five minute majors. At the end of two periods the Sharks were outshooting the Jets 20-16.

The teams traded power plays in the third before the Jets’ Tyler Myers slashed Tommy Wingels in the neck, leading to a five minute power play for the Sharks.

Alex Stalock had the puck stolen from him while he was trying to play it, but the resulting goal was waived off and the Sharks were given a two minute two man advantage, and Joe Pavelski capitalized, securing the win for his team. Joel Ward’s empty netter in the last minute made the final score 4-1.
