Sharks report no new COVID tests, will resume activities Friday

After postponing what would have been Thursday night’s game against the Vegas Golden Knights due to a positive COVID-19 test, the San Jose Sharks have reported no new positive tests. The team will resume activities on Friday, without Tomas Hertl, the lone player to test positive.

The hard shutdown was likely due to contact tracing making it difficult to ascertain who may have been exposed to Hertl. The team played on Monday night in San Jose against the Minnesota Wild, who themselves had to suspend operations due to an outbreak of COVID-19, and postpone six games between Feb. 4 and Feb. 16. The postponement of the Sharks versus Golden Knights game marked the 36th NHL game postponed due to COVID.

With no new positive tests, the team has been cleared to practice on Friday. Should the team and staff continue with no new positive tests, Saturday’s game against the St. Louis Blues will proceed in San Jose as scheduled.

Sharing facilities, the San Jose Barracuda also suspended operations out of caution. The team has continued to have no positive coronavirus tests and as such, will resume operations on Friday. They are scheduled to host the Ontario Reign at Sharks Ice on Saturday night.

The Sharks’ game against the Golden Knights will be rescheduled for later in the season.
