Antti Suomela reassigned to San Jose Barracuda

After being a healthy scratch, the move will get ice time for the Sharks rookie.

Times are rough for San Jose Sharks rookie forward Antti Suomela. After being a healthy scratch for the last two Sharks games, Suomela been reassigned to the San Jose Barracuda, presumably to get him playing time.

The 24-year-old Finnish forward has 8 points (3 goals, 5 assists) in 27 games played for the Sharks this season. For the Barracuda, this move will load their roster with centers, bringing their total to six. Head coach Roy Sommer has an embarrassment of riches in forward depth, helping his Barracuda top the AHL standings.

Suomela should get his first games in with the Barracuda during their Southern California road trip, in which the ‘Cuda will play in San Diego on Saturday night before heading to Ontario the next day, and then back to San Diego on Dec. 19.

For the Sharks, this signals that Lukas Radil will likely remain with the mother club for the time being. The 28-year-old Radil recently scored his first NHL goal, totalling 2 points in seven games.
