Sharks at Stars (game 59): Lines, game thread and how to watch

This is the first of the San Jose Sharks’ three meetings with the Dallas Stars this season. The teams will play again on Tuesday in San Jose and then on March 26, also in San Jose. Last season, two of the Sharks’ 22 wins came against the Stars. Dallas was good last season, but arguably better this one. Meantime, San Jose is arguably worse. All that is to say, we might not see the same result this season.

The Stars recently added Chris Tanev to the roster, but he likely won’t play tonight. According to ESPN, he’ll possibly make his debut in San Jose on Tuesday. Still, even without Tanev, the Stars’ roster is loaded. There’s a reason why Dallas is first in the Central Division and second in the Western Conference. Joe Pavelski looks ageless and has 51 points this season. Jason Robertson leads the Stars in points with 59, while Roope Hintz has 24 goals.

The supporting cast of players is also dangerous. Matt Duchene, Wyatt Johnston and Tyler Seguin can all score at will against San Jose and that’s not even taking into consideration the defense led by Miro Heiskanen and Esa Lindell. Backing them all up is Jake Oettinger, who has 22 wins this season.

If you’re looking for a fun read about former Shark Pavelski, look no further than this one on the Texas Stars’ site. It talks about how Pavs has become a sort of a youth hostel for the young players including Johnston and Logan Stankoven. Stankoven, by the way, was recently sent back to the Texas Stars as part of a cap move, so he likely won’t be playing tonight.

San Jose Sharks lines March 2, 2024

The Sharks are likely to ice similar lines to the last game, unless of course General Manager Mike Grier works some magic on the phones and lines up a trade. Here’s what the Daily Faceoff reports the lines will look like with Givani Smith in and Alexander Barabanov day-to-day with an injury.

On defense, Ty Emberson left the last game with an injury and won’t be available tonight. The report is that it’s a “laceration.”

Sounds like Magnus Chrona starts today and Kaapo Kahkonen gets the start in Minnesota.
