The San Jose Sharks issued qualifying offers to forwards Chris Tierney, Marcus Sorensen, and Barclay Goodrow ahead of Monday’s deadline, the team announced this afternoon. The trio will have until July 15 to accept San Jose’s qualifying offers, while Sorensen and Goodrow are eligible for arbitration, according to Cap Friendly.
Tierney, a 2012 second round pick who made his NHL debut in 2014, needs a new deal after the expiration of his entry-level contract. He set career highs in points (23), goals (11), and games played (80) this past year. So does Goodrow, who signed with San Jose as an undrafted free agent and also made his NHL debut in 2014. Goodrow played 60 games in the NHL that season, but has only played 17 since.
That was in part because of the emergence of Sorensen and other prospects. Sorensen, originally a fourth round pick by Ottawa in 2010, signed with the Sharks last summer as a free agent. In his first professional season in North America, Sorensen scored four points in 19 regular season games and two points in six postseason games with the Sharks, as well as 34 in 43 regular season games and one in ten playoff games with the AHL’s Barracuda.
San Jose did not issue qualifying offers to forward Nikita Jevpalovs, defenseman Patrick McNally, and goaltender/model Mantas Armalis, who are all now eligible to become unrestricted free agents. The Sharks signed Jevpalovs and McNally in 2015, and Armalis alongside Djurgårdens IF teammate Sorensen in 2016. The three all played for the Barracuda this season.
