Junior Hockey Roundup: Rourke Chartier joins San Jose Barracuda for playoffs

San Jose Sharks prospect Rourke Chartier joined the San Jose Barracuda on Thursday after wrapping up his fourth season with the Kelowna Rockets in the Western Hockey League. While with the Rockets, Chartier scored 46 points in 42 games — down from a season ago where he racked up 82 points in 58 contests.

The forward, drafted in the fifth round of the 2014 draft, joins a Barracuda team looking to take a 2-1 lead in the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs. Game three of the five-game series gets going tonight in Ontario. Game four will be played on Friday and, if necessary, game five is slated for Sunday.

We’ll have a recap of tonight’s ‘Cuda game and, if Chartier plays, some thoughts on his performance.

In other junior news, Timo Meier and the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies took a commanding 3-1 lead in their semifinal series after dispatching Moncton 1-0 on Wednesday night. Game five of the best-of-seven series is in Rouyn-Noranda on Friday. Meier had one dangerous shot and one…regular shot. Not great.
